Chest and Neck
What changes are seen on the neck and chest with age and sun damage?
The neck and ‘V’ of the chest (or décolletage in women) usually sustains a high degree of sun exposure throughout life. It is not as resilient to sun exposure as the face. Excess sun exposure leads to a ‘crepe’-like appearance of the skin and a characteristic red-brown discolouration that looks like a permanent tan or sunburn. This skin change is called poikiloderma of Civatte and is extremely common among women in Australia. Like any skin that undergoes excessive sun exposure, other types of pigmentation such as freckling, actinic lentigines, and flat seborrhoiec keratoses can occur here also.
Photo-Fraxional Combination treatment
The Photo-Fraxional treatment consists of the use of both the IPL and the Fraxel Re:store at the same time. This treatment targets virtually all the features of sun damage at once and is therefore our best treatment for sun-affected skin. A single treatment often gives results equivalent to three treatments with a single laser. Treating sun-damaged skin of both the face and body with Photo-Fraxional laser is one of our most common procedures at the clinic.
Dual-Filter IPL Photorejuvenation
The Ellipse Flex dual-filter IPL is the world’s leading IPL machine. It is very effective in removing flat types of pigmentation as well as redness and vessels. This combination makes it ideal for treating poikiloderma of Civatte which is seen so commonly at these sites.
Fraxel Re:store
Fraxel Re:store is a superb skin rejuvenation procedure that corrects most features of sun damage and ageing including skin texture. It does so in a gentle fashion with only 4 days of redness and swelling that is quite easy to cover on the neck and chest. It is suitable for all skin types from fair to dark.
Fraxel Peel/Fraxel Dual
The new Fraxel Peel component of the Fraxel Dual is designed to give a dramatic but safe peel of the skin surface. Up to 50% of the skin surface can be peeled with only 1 week of down-time and unsurpassed safety. A single treatment gives dramatic results however toe to three treatments will effectively treat the entire area. This procedure is especially useful for pigmentation that is even slightly raised. Your specialist will determine if you have this type of pigmentation.
IPL-assisted photodynamic therapy (photodynamic rejuvenation)
This is dual-filter IPL treatment to the skin following preparation of the skin with one hour of ALA lotion. The ALA lotion makes the sun-damaged areas of the skin even more susceptible to the light of the IPL, resulting in greater removal of sun damage. It is especially useful if there are pre-cancerous sun-spots present. Your specialist will determine if IPL-assisted photodynamic therapy (photodynamic rejuvenation) is well suited to your skin
