Fine Lines and Wrinkles
What causes fine lines and wrinkles?
Lines and wrinkles result from a number of causes including the natural ageing process, sun damage, smoking, contraction of facial muscles, chronic dehydration, and loss of volume of the skin.
What treatments are available?
Muscle relaxing injections
This is the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure. It is extremely safe and highly effective. It is especially suited to lines of the upper face, including between the eye-brows, around the eyes, and of the forehead. The procedure is quick and maximum results are seen by two weeks.
Fillers
Fillers are typically used to address lines and wrinkles of the lower face. Lines around the mouth, jaw and nasolabial fold (the fold that runs from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth are largely caused by loss of volume of the soft tissues under the skin. Replacing this volume with a filler can instantly reduce lines. This is a simple procedure performed in the clinic and usually involves no down-time. For this reason it is always a favorite with patients and doctors.
Fraxel family of lasers
The Fraxel fraxel family of lasers are our most popular skin rejuvenation treatment. Fraxel’s revolutionary technology removes tiny laser pin-pricks of skin which triggers skin regeneration. It results in improved skin quality and texture which includes a reduction in fine lines. It is the Photo-Fraxional combination treatment that is our most effective Fraxel treatment for fine lines. If a patient has deep lines then we would recommend an additional treatment such as the use of fillers and/or muscle-relaxing injections.
Skin care
Certain skin care products can help reduce fine lines over time as well as prevent the development of this sign of ageing in the future. In particular, in particular medical grade vitamin A, vitamin C, and hydroxy or fruit acids are useful in this regard. Naturally, incorporating a sunscreen into the skin care regimen is very important. In addition, the correct products can help prevent recurrence of pigmentation once it has been treated by other methods. Your specialist can determine which skin care products are suitable for your skin.
